According to legend, the turban was worn by the prophet Muhammad (SAW) himself, and the faithful Muslims should do the same.  <\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4> A turban is a piece of fabric that is wound around the head around a fez or skullcap. The length of the simplest turban was 6-8 m, but the most luxurious ones reached 20 m. At the court of the Sultan, noble and wealthy people wore multi-layered turban decorated with precious stones, because this fabric was associated with luxury.  <\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4> Turbanes were tied in different ways, for example, the Janissaries knew at least 20 ways. For a long time, the turban was the uniform headdress of officials and soldiers in the Ottoman Empire, but in 1826 it was replaced by fez in this capacity.  <\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4> The tradition of wearing a fez was maintained in countries like Syria, Iraq, Palestine, Egypt, Western Thrace, Macedonia and Bosnia, all countries which used to be part of the Ottoman Empire.    <\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4> The fez has never lost popularity in Tunisia, Libya, Morocco and Algeria.
