After Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror conquered Istanbul, he ordered the church of Hagia Sophia to be turned into a Masjid immediately so that he could perform his first Friday Salah in the city there. So the builders of the army quickly turned the Church of Hagia Sophia into the Masjid of the Great Conquest, and prepared it for the Friday salah.<\/h4>\n

The people gathered around Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror, and he asked them:<\/h4>\n

– “Is there anyone among you who has never missed the Sunnah of the afternoon Salah?”<\/h4>\n

– “If there is, he will be the Imam and lead the congregation,” he continued.<\/h4>\n

Everyone started looking at their elders. Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror’s tutor looked at the other pious men and lastly at Akshamsaddin. Everyone held their head low. Even Akshamsaddin did, and he said:<\/h4>\n

– “Once, I had guests at my house. I did not want to offend my guests, and I was busy, so I missed it. Only once in my life did I not perform the Sunnah of the afternoon Salah.”<\/h4>\n

When Akshamsaddin spoke so, Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror replied:<\/h4>\n

– “I have never missed the Sunnah or the Fardh of the afternoon Salah.”<\/h4>\n

And so, he was chosen by the congregation to lead the first Friday salah as the Imam in Hagia Sopha right after the conquest of Istanbul.<\/h4>\n
